Police say the teen gave birth to a girl at home on Jan. 10, then put the baby in the trash; she didn't tell her parents. A relative who didn't know about the baby later took the trash to a dumpster at Eastgate shopping center.
But within few days, the teen became sick and was hospitalized; she told medical personnel that she had indeed delivered a baby and put it in the trash. Wichita police traced the clues, and found the baby's body in the shopping center dumpster. The baby would have been named "Mary".
Authorities are still trying to determine whether the baby was born alive, or was stillborn.
