Fire Damages House in NW Wichita

WICHITA, Kan.  -  Investigators are looking for what sparked a house fire Friday evening in the 10,000 block of Bartlett Court.  Firefighters responded to the scene near 21st and Maize Road shortly before 8:00 p.m.
Crews arrived and found heavy smoke and fire inside the garage of the home.  Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading too far into the home but there is fire and smoke damage to the kitchen.
Neighbors tell investigators they heard some explosions which may have been caused by containers and vehicles in the garage where the fire appears to have started.
The cause is still unclear, but Battalion Chief Andy Cole said at the scene it caused up to $250,000 in damage. The high estimate is due to the vehicles that were inside of the garage at the time.
The homeowner may have been out of town when the fire started.  No one was hurt.
