Warm Weather Sprouts Winter Wheat Early

Warm weather is spurring more of the Kansas winter wheat crop to break its dormancy earlier than usual. Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Monday that 20 percent of the crop has broken dormancy, up from just 4 percent just a week ago. An update on the crop's condition was mostly favorable. Ten percent of the wheat is rated excellent and 50 percent good, with 32 percent in fair condition and 8 percent rated poor or very poor.
