WINFIELD, Kan. (AP) - Kansas' revenue secretary is predicting
that a cash crunch will force the state to delay paying income tax
refunds.
Secretary Joan Wagnon says the state has limited options for
keeping it budget balanced through the end of the current fiscal
year on June 30.
Wagnon made her comments Tuesday during a meeting at the
Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce offices.
She said two options are postponing aid payments to public
schools and delaying income tax refunds.
The state has been late in making at least part of its aid
payments to its 293 school districts each month since November. It
hasn't yet delayed income tax refunds.
But the state collected $71 million less in tax revenues than
anticipated in February.
