KU Bans Sales of Smokes on Campus Starting July 1

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - The University of Kansas has announced that as of July 1 it will no longer allow the sales of cigarettes or other tobacco products on its campuses. Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little says in a news release that selling tobacco products is inconsistent with university values and the health research conducted there. While she acknowledges that students and employees can buy cigarettes elsewhere, she says the university does not encourage the use of tobacco. KU Medical Center already prohibits the sale of tobacco on its campuses, and smoking is not allowed in any University of Kansas buildings, including residence halls.
